The detail
Vans are not cars with bigger boots. Here is how we approach LCV calibration and the platforms we see most across South Wales.
A van at gross vehicle weight needs torque at low rpm, cleanly and repeatably, with exhaust temperatures kept in check on long climbs. We write the file with the vehicle's real duty in mind, and we would rather deliver a flatter, safer torque plateau than a peaky number that only exists on a printout.
The 2.0 and 2.2 TDCi and EcoBlue engines respond extremely well to a properly written file. Focus areas are low-end torque for loaded pull-away, smoothing the turbo transition that makes stock Customs feel flat, and keeping DPF regeneration behaviour intact for multi-drop work.
T5, T6 and T6.1 platforms are among the most popular vans we tune in the valleys. Files target mid-range pull for towing and camper conversions, with DSG-equipped vehicles receiving coordinated gearbox calibration so shift points match the new torque curve.
Shared platforms with well-understood headroom. The common complaint is a lazy bottom end when loaded; a custom file resolves it without pushing the injectors or clutch beyond sensible limits.
Heavier chassis-cab and Luton bodies benefit most from torque-biased calibration. On motorhome conversions we deliberately bias toward economy and smooth part-throttle response rather than outright power.
For fleets we log every vehicle's original and tuned file against its registration, so identical vans get identical calibration and any driver complaint can be traced to a specific file version. Servicing and vehicle rotation stay simple.
A remap must be declared to your insurer — most commercial policies accept it with little or no premium change. If the van is under manufacturer warranty, we will discuss the implications honestly, and we can restore the original file before any dealer visit at no cost.
